This is outlined in our <u><a href=\"https:\/\/www.maltairport.com\/corporate\/corporate-responsibility\/sustainability\/\">Net Zero Carbon Plan<\/a><\/u>, with two main interim targets set:\n<ul>\n<li>Reaching carbon neutral status in 2025, and;<\/li>\n<li>Reducing its emissions by 65% by 2030\u00a0when compared to 2015\u00a0(baseline year).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Launched a <strong>Stakeholder Engagement<\/strong> initiative in 2023 to enhance environmental collaboration and streamline Scope 3 data collection with airport operators, including airlines, ground handlers, employees, and outlet operators.<\/li>\n<li>For 2024, while passenger traffic grew by nearly 15% over the previous year to total 8.96 million movements, the Company\u2019s electricity consumption increased by 8%.<\/li>\n<li>4 PV systems\u00a0throughout the airport campus, with plans to <strong>expand our PV capacity <\/strong>by introducing a 5th PV farm at airfield. This installation is expected to generate c. 5.1mln kWh of clean energy. Equivalent to c.50% of our 2024 electricity consumption.<\/li>\n<li>An expected 0.11 kg rate of<strong>\u00a0landfill waste per passenger<\/strong>\u00a0for 2024 \u2013 a company KPI since 2022.<\/li>\n<li>Plans are underway for <strong>Apron 8 South reservoir<\/strong> \u2013 this shall be the<strong> largest reservoir constructed to date, <\/strong>with a total capacity of 10,000 m<sup>3 <\/sup>and will help the company reduce dependency on bowser water once completed.<\/li>\n<li>Home to\u00a0<strong>2 apiaries<\/strong> at airfield side, currently having 16 colonies &#8211; equivalent to c.750,000 bees. Honey produced is used to test <strong>Air Quality<\/strong>\u00a0at the airport. Moreover, an Air Quality Monitoring System has been installed with data collection planned to start in 2025.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><strong>Economic Contribution<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-27995 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/maltairport.com\/app\/uploads\/2025\/08\/MIA-Calendar-398_fav-768x512-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"768\" height=\"512\" srcset=\"https:\/\/maltairport.com\/app\/uploads\/2025\/08\/MIA-Calendar-398_fav-768x512-1.jpg 768w, https:\/\/maltairport.com\/app\/uploads\/2025\/08\/MIA-Calendar-398_fav-768x512-1-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 768px) 100vw, 768px\" \/><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>4,200<\/strong> jobs directly supported by MIA (as of 2024)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Malta International Airport is a member of the ACI-EUROPE (Airport Council International &#8211; Europe).
